I’m so glad you came by to visit. Welcome to Blue Water Drift Dive, a live electronic ambient radio program I host weekly on RadioSpiral. My name is Darrell Burgan, perhaps better known as the ambient artist Palancar. It is my great pleasure to bring this series of programs to you.
By the way, a lot of people inquire about the name. Believe it or not, it is actually a thing. It’s a term from recreational diving. A “blue water dive” is one done in, well, blue water. Meaning the kind of clear transparent water you’d find in the Caribbean, the Great Barrier Reef, the south Pacific, and so many other great spots.
Now, a “drift dive” is one in which there is a strong current. Rather than fight the current and use up all the air quickly, the diver simply floats along with the current, and so does the dive boat. Reefs and wildlife and other wondrous things float by you effortlessly, kind of like going through “It’s a Small World” at Disneyland.
Anyway, put the two terms together and … well you can do the math.
