BWDD – January 24, 2021

Tonight on Blue Water Drift Dive, we will be continuing our series focusing on live ambient and electronic music. With live sets performed by artists like Robert Rich, Cypress Rosewood / Tony Gerber, and The Ministry of Inside Things, we will certainly have a lovely time. There will also be an unreleased historical live set performed by yours truly. Hope to see you there.

The show happens tonight at 10p/9p/8p/7p ET/CT/MT/PT (2a UTC), immediately following the end of Tony Gerber’s fantastic Ambient Sundays program, and will last at least 2 hours. As with all RadioSpiral.net programs, the emphasis is on community, so of course there is a live chat.

If you tune in, I hope you’ll stop by and say hello!

BWDD – October 18, 2020

It is “Mountain Night” tonight on Blue Water Drift Dive on RadioSpiral.net! After a lovely road trip through Colorado and Wyoming last week — the reason there was no show last weekend — I think it’s appropriate to have a show focused on the music of the mountains. As such, every track in tonight’s show has some special reference to the mountains in its title, the album it is on, or in the theme of the music.

We’ll open with a block of mountain-themed pieces from such artists as Kevin Spears, Ombient, The Lovely Moon, Chris Zabriskie, Tony Gerber, and Altus, traveling mostly in the high plains of light ambient music, but with a few delicious side roads thrown in for good measure.

And in the second hour, I’ll be bringing you that masterpiece of mountain music by none other than ambient explorer Thom Brennan: his 1987 masterpiece simply entitled Mountains. One of my favorite albums ever — and a beautiful way to close out the show and send us into the work week well centered and prepared.

And, of course, I’ll be opening the program with a live set, this time dedicated to the crisp and pristine air up there at Monarch Pass. Or the lack thereof.

Auroric Dreams

Some more music I’m listening to while working.  Today’s music is from space music group Auroric Dreams, which includes my friend Tony Gerber, a fantastic musician and extraordinary human being.

This group plays some highly original and lush electronic and guitar based space music.  Sometimes quiet, sometimes energetic, but always spacious.  Give them a listen!

Also, last night is the first time I heard Tony refer to himself as “Gerbtone”.  I couldn’t resist:

Gerbtone

What a privilege I had bringing this music to you.  Tonight we heard an outstanding live concert by Tony Gerber, as well as a broad cross section of the decades of gorgeous music Tony has given us, both solo and in collaboration.  Just wonderful.

Special thanks to Tony for taking time to bring us this concert!  I hope we can do this again soon …

Tony Gerber live on Blue Water Drift Dive March 2nd

Just a friendly reminder …

That’s right.  On March 2nd, I will have the extraordinary privilege of hosting Tony Gerber live in concert on BWDD.

Mark Your Calendar

For those of you who don’t know him, live space music pioneer Tony Gerber has been performing live music in front of audiences and live radio since he was 9 years old. For his space music projects, live and recorded, he mixes a love of electronic music with guitars and native flutes.

In addition to the live concert, I will of course take you on a journey through Tony’s released music, both as a solo artist, as Cypress Rosewood, and as part of the space music group Spacecraft.  This is going to be a very special night indeed.  Don’t miss it!

Friday, March 9, 2018 – Thomas Park Retrospective

thomasparkOn March 9th, I’ll be presenting a special feature on one of the most ground-breaking and prolific ambient artists ever:  Thomas Park.

Entitled The Music Of Thomas Park: 20 Years Of Creativity (A Retrospective), this never-before-heard documentary chronicles Thomas’ amazing odyssey through all forms of electronic music and presents the many ways his music has influenced the genre itself.

You can find Thomas’ music everywhere without even knowing it, as he has released under the artist names Mystified, AutoCad, Mister Vapor, Grid Resistor, Model 201, and many others.  It is not hyperbole to say that Thomas Park is one of the premier ambient artists ever.

I’m very proud to bring this work to you.  You don’t want to miss this.

See You Then

I hope you to see you at both of these events!  If you tune in, be sure to stop by the chat room and say hello …

ob12 cleanIt’s always wonderful to celebrate the return of an old friend, and tonight was my opportunity to do that for my beloved Oberheim OB-12.  We had a great time listening to music inspired by the color blue, and chit chatting about hiking in Japan, the evils of internet service providers, Debussy doing Satie, revolving organ bars, and the mysterious Christmas Asparagus.  Don’t ask – you had to be in the chat room at the time to understand that reference.

The night was cold and wet but the music was warm and inviting.  Hope to see you next week!
